On Da Pursuit of Happiness

"A selfish desire for happiness is as sinful as any other selfish desire"
AW Tozer
"The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law nor can it do so"
Romans 8:7
Lately, i bin thinkin really hard. What happened to the innocence we once bragged of? I remember growing up and how falling in love during our teenage years was for free.

A few days back i was bouncing with this really cute las whose charm overshadows her beauty. To the undiscerning, its easy to fall prey. Remember true beauty is the reflection of the human soul wen holiness is born. Never marry for physical beauty. Sometimes it's even a product of money.(Facial moles and beauty parlours). We was conversating bout marriage and how no modern gal would want to marry a broke brother. I like to say that gals ride bikes while lookin at the wheels-they dont look beyond into the future. They kinda live in the immediate(no disrespect to the ladys cos am sure there is a remnant). This is the peril of living in the immediate-They end up with the rich dude and miss out on God's dude. Co habitting has become a fashion statement, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, divorce...to mention but a few, all in the pursuit of happinerss! God is left with an eye roaming, seeking for a man/woman on the earth to stand in the gap.

Master Tozer calls this the hedonistic philosophy of old Grecian days misunderstood and applied to everyday living in these ' modern' times.

But this destroys all nobility of character in many a young person's life even if its quite the popular creed of the masses. 'That we are born to be happy is scarcely questioned by anyone'. No one bothers to prove that fallen men have any moral right to happiness, or that they are in the long run any better off happy. The only question these days is how to get the most happiness out of life. The thesis of almost all popular movies, plays and books is that personal happiness is the legitimate end of the dramatic human struggle.

Now, i submit that the whole hectic scramble after happiness is an evil as certainly as is the scramble after money or fame or success. It springs out of a vast misunderstanding of ourselves and of our true moral condition. No one who really knows himself can ever believe in his right to be happy. A little glimpse of his own heart will disillusion him instantly so that he is more likely to turn on himself and own God's sentence against him to be just.

The effect of this modern hedonism is felt also among the people of God. The las in question is a confirmed and proffessing christian-Born again at that! Our argument revealed the true heart of some of God's people. We are more likely to yoke with unbelievers at the expense of God's word and many times its under a fallacy of 'we are gonna change our mates'.(Bobi's wife)

Many a young gal has blurted; "If he can make me laugh, then i will marry him"
This has also been reinforced by the foolishness of those who propose to these gals in the name of 'God spoke to me that you will be my wife' which is boldly rejected by; "Well, He aint spoken to me yet". But the breast they put their head to grin is not God's either. Just because it glitters dont mean its gold.

My sweet gal, praised the man upstairs for finding me still in ashes and cheap doo rags. She said her prayer was to find a man whom she would grow with spiritually and financially( build a house and buy our first car together). Wooosh!
That did sound uncommon but time changes everything (God forbid). She went on to assert that she was happy she met me before the spotlight of journalist's comin to have an interview with a rap thespian and asking to interview his wife too.
Her faith is still untainted and am praying for the biggest miracle. God findind an unholy person in an unholy world, making him holy and keeping him holy in that same world.
God is more concerned about yo holiness than happiness cos wat use is it if u gain the world and lose yo soul in the process.

God raise up many of a like mind to shame the world!

them gals that sing like birds about how they are gonna marry him cuz he makes them laugh fill the babana republic. thank God we got a true brother in you to blow the trumpet that seeking God's holiness first and then asking him for a man/wife after His own heart is the secret to eventual happiness in marriage and this world.

“The pursuit of happiness” – there really is a remnant… and I like the quote; a selfish desire for happiness is as sinful as any other selfish desire. We should pursue joy. I was one of the ones who thought if a man could make me laugh I’d be alright! I did get one, and I laughed every day, but guess what – I also cried every day. The fact that he did not love God first, above all things, served as my heartache. I enjoyed reading this. Keep posting, soldier! God bless you big.

well, lemme speak for the women, a woman longs ofr security in a man in all ways and all things. yes , while it is shallow to want to date the money not the man, it is not shallow to deny that a woman wants a man who is going somewhere because it is the honour of everyman to prootect his woman in all ways possible. it is his glory to. what girls need to know is that he may not have the benjamins now or the fancy car and house but he is determined, he is ambitious and wants to go somewhere in life... and is trying amd doing something about it... that is a man worth dating coz what he is now isnt what he will be in 10 years!

great entry though, i need to send your adress to a friend of mine, a hip hop saved guy like you,,,, lucy

Hey Lucy! Its cool u gat a heart beating in yo breast BUT which gal is gonna hang around dat long?? 10 years? Remember gals are at their best wen they are 22!!! 'I aint geeting any younger', they moan. And it takes God 40 years(hyperbole) to make His man. No gals wants to wait that long especially in this dot com world.
